“A Voteless People is a Hopeless People” was initiated as a National Program of Alpha Phi Alpha during the 1930’s when many African-Americans had the right to vote but were prevented from voting because of poll taxes, threats of reprisal, and lack of education about the voting process. Voter education and registration have remained a dominant focus of this outreach activity for over 65 years. The Xi Phi Lambda Chapter continues the legacy of A Voteless People is a Hopeless People through Voter Registration drives throughout the Lowcountry.
The “Go-to-High-School, Go-to-College” program was established in 1922. The program concentrates on the importance of completing secondary and collegiate education as a road to advancement. Under the Go-to-High-School, Go-to-College educational initiative, the Xi Phi Lambda partnered with Sigma Upsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. to have a College and Career Fair.

The Xi Phi Lambda Chapter hosted a Project Alpha Jamboree. The event was a mix of Project Alpha Curriculum Content, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, and a live DJ. Over 75 young men and their families attended the event. The event ended with the basketball tournament and one team took home a $500 cash prize! We hope to continue this creative and productive Project Alpha event for years to come!
The Xi Phi Lambda Chapter prides itself on our reclamation. Each year we partner with other local graduate chapters in Beaufort, Orangeburg, and Charleston to have a Brotherhood Cook-Off and Cookout. It has been beneficial to bring brothers back into the fold. The Xi Phi Lambda chapter has received a District Award for Reclamation Efforts and will continue to bring back brothers to the House of Alpha!
Each year during the holidays, the Xi Phi Lambda Chapter works with the Salvation Army in Summerville to help ring the bell. The donations go toward the following programs:
